Sins making way for the next.
Sure, it's best not to eat candy or have a drink. But what's the harm if it's done in moderation? Young and old, we all sin every once in a while during 'happy hour'. Difference is, when I was 8, it meant I could have a few tumtummetjes when I got out of school (and after I'd had my fruit). Now happy hour is a Friday evening and drinks with friends.
Happy hour was shot together with Cynthia, a stylist I've worked with on many commercial jobs.
Happy hour is playful, it's bright, full of life!
The dynamic elements of the jumping frogs and poured champagne drink (mixed with green lemonade to keep it within the color scheme (sadly not so much to make it taste any better)) bring in the playful element that happy hour is about.
To support the energy and pop-art style, we added hard light, checked straws and a bold monochromatic look.
I can definitely enjoy a good glass of scotch, the smoothness and softness was something we also wanted to bring into the contrasting flavor explosion of sweet and sour candies. So that was our challenge for this one; making candy soft and sophisticated.
With rich tones and soft(er) lighting, we got started from the feeling of an old chestnut wood lined library. Sitting in an old chesterfield with the brightest light coming coming from the hallway through a slightly ajar door.
Still wanting the image to match the rest of the happy hour series, the monochrome look and high contrast brings back focus to the drinks. And isn't that what it's about?
The 3rd concept from Happy Hour plays into the idea of rituals and stories that kids like to imitate from grown-ups. Hence the 3 image serie; prepare, create, enjoy.
We opted for a more pastel look refering back to older styles of barbies. Soft pinks mixed with yellows and hard blues. While the lighting still has a directness to it, the shadows have all been made brighter to lean into the no-worries world of barbies.
btw, while the haribo bananas were wonderful after the shoot, our 'foam' was actually a form of krupuk (deepfried shrimp ;) ).
